Alyeska Slush Cup: Spring Skiing & Pond Skimming

The Alyeska Slush Cup is the ultimate celebration of spring skiing in Alaska. Watch as costumed skiers and snowboarders attempt to skim across a freezing pool of meltwater at the base of Mount Alyeska.

The Main Event: Pond Skimming

Held in mid-April, the Slush Cup is the highlight of the Spring Carnival weekend. Competitors launch down a steep snowy run in creative costumes, attempting to generate enough speed to slide across a custom-built, 90-foot pond. Crashing into the freezing water is part of the fun.

Spectator Tips & Prime Viewing Spot

The slopes surrounding the slush pond serve as a giant natural amphitheater. Thousands of spectators gather to watch, cheer, and judge the costumes. Arrive early to secure a good spot, wear sunscreen, and dress in layers.

Spring Carnival Weekend Events

The weekend also features live outdoor concerts at the Sitzmark, the 'Dummy Launch' (where homemade dummies are launched off a ski jump), and slopeside tailgating, making it one of the most fun weekends of the year.
