Girdwood Board of Supervisors (GBOS): Local Government Guide

The Girdwood Board of Supervisors (GBOS) serves as the primary advisory government body for the Girdwood Valley Service Area, managing local public works, roads, parks, and fire protection.

Structure & Elected Seats

GBOS is comprised of five elected supervisors: Seat A (Jennifer Wingard, Co-Chair - Land Use, Zoning & Permits, LUC liaison), Seat B (Brian Burnett - Parks & Recreation & Girdwood Cemetery), Seat C (Kellie Okonek - Public Safety, Roads, & Utilities), Seat D (Mike Edgington, Co-Chair - Housing, Economic Stability, & Long-Range Planning), and Seat E (Briana Sullivan - Fire Department & EMS Operations). Administrative support is managed by Margaret Tyler (Girdwood Administrative Officer, contact 907-343-8373) and Kyle Kelley (Girdwood Service Area Manager).

Meetings & Public Input

GBOS regular meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Girdwood Community Room (and online via Microsoft Teams). Meetings are open to the public, and community input is highly encouraged.

Relationship with Municipality of Anchorage

Because Girdwood is a service area within the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA), GBOS advises the Anchorage Assembly and Mayor on local tax levies, capital budgets, and zoning ordinance overrides.
