Plan your fishing trip near Girdwood. Discover nearby Bird Creek, salmon run calendars, and license requirements for coho and pink salmon.

Bird Creek: Best Nearby Fishing

Located 10 miles north of Girdwood, Bird Creek is a popular destination for sport fishermen. The creek features a major run of Silver (Coho) Salmon in late summer (July to August), alongside pink salmon runs.

Glacier Creek & Local Waters

Glacier Creek, which flows directly through the Girdwood valley, carries heavy glacial silt, making it poor for sport fishing. Anglers typically head north to Bird Creek or south to Kenai Peninsula rivers.

Licenses, Regulations & Safety

All anglers must purchase an Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) sport fishing license. Always check the current year's emergency orders and bag limits. Beware of incoming high tides and slippery rocks at river mouths.
